Metals + Lapidary

Our Metals + Lapidary studios offer classes and workshops for all skill levels in various techniques, including enameling, jewelry fabrication, lost wax casting, metal clay, metal forming, stone-setting, and lapidary arts. We focus not only on foundational skills but also on the creative process of combining these materials to produce unique works of art. For advanced and independent metalsmiths who have taken classes at Sawtooth and are familiar with our equipment, we also provide Open Studio time.

Additionally, Sawtooth hosts the Metal Clay Artists Symposium, a biennial event that brings together metalsmiths from around the world for workshops, demonstrations, artist talks, and opportunities to connect with the community. Learn more about this exciting event here!

OUR EQUIPMENT

In the Metals + Lapidary Studio, you will find the same quality and range of equipment that you would find in a professional jeweler’s studio: roll mills, a hydraulic press, belt-sanders and buffing machines, acetylene and oxy-acetylene soldering torches, tumblers, kilns, and jeweler’s benches for all students. Lapidary equipment includes CabKing cabbing machines and RayTech faceting machines which are housed next door in the Glass Studio.
