Youth Outreach

Sawtooth's Youth Outreach program aims to foster success through visual arts for Winston-Salem students. It builds long-term relationships with those interested in various art disciplines and offers access to diverse classes without requiring commitment. Research shows that exposure to the arts improves academic performance, boosts confidence, and enhances the likelihood of high school graduation. Additionally, arts education promotes creativity, problem-solving skills, and emotional resilience, benefiting students well into adulthood.

Together, we can create a future where every child can express themselves, build confidence, and develop lifelong skills through the power of the arts. If you are passionate about visual arts education, please consider supporting our work through a one-time or recurring donation.

Request a Field Trip or Special Event

Sawtooth’s downtown studios are inspiring for artists of any age—and we’re happy to help organize programs for home-school groups or host after-school programs from facilities that lack structured and dedicated arts programming. We also have longstanding partnerships with many local organizations focused on student success, including the Winston-Salem Street School, LEAD Girls of NC, El Bueno Pastor Services, and Union Baptist CDC’s STEAM & Read program.

Please note that we are only able to offer field trips from March to May and September to November. Considering studio, instructor, and staff availability, field trips or school groups must be requested at least one month in advance through the form on our website.

Field Trip Program for Title 1 Schools

Thanks to the generous funding from the Windgate Foundation, we have established a special scholarship fund to support field trips for students from public Title I schools, enabling interested groups to enjoy a two-activity visit at Sawtooth. *We are only able to offer field trips from March to May and September to November.

Say Hey to Sawtooth!

You can find us at many beloved local events where we offer hands-on activities, sidewalk chalk, and information about our various programs. Throughout spring and summer, we’re regularly at the Cobblestone Farmer’s Market, and we can also be found at the Piedmont Earth Day Fair, Bookmarks Festival of Books and Authors, Ardmore Art Walk, Art Crush and other area events.

Our calendar is full at the moment for 2026, but we always love to hear about what’s happening in the community. Send us information about your event here and we will consider it for future opportunities.
