Ceramics

Our light-filled ceramics studios overlooking Winston Square Park contain everything students of ceramics could want. We offer beginner-friendly workshops and 9-week intensive classes in wheel-throwing, handbuilding, clay sculpture, and more. Our downtown studios have 19 potters’ wheels, 2 slab rollers, an extruder, 4 electric kilns, 2 31 sqft gas kilns, a fully-stocked glaze lab, and ample storage space. We have an additional ceramics studio at the Intergenerational Center for Arts and Wellness near Wake Forest University. Sawtooth’s Wood–Fired Kiln Pavilion is equipped with 1 train kiln, 1 wood-gas hybrid catenary arch kiln, and 3 raku kilns for atmospheric firing with classes and Visiting Artist Workshops.

Our Visiting Artist Program regularly brings esteemed ceramics artists to lead specialized workshops, and each year we host a handful of early-career Artists in Residence to teach, inspire, and energize our community. Learn more about these special programs here.

ARTIST IN RESIDENCE PROGRAM

Our 2025-2026 Ceramics Artists in Residence are Chloe Foster (she/they), Bo Gilbert (they/them), and Steven Parker (he/him). These three emerging talents will spend the next year at Sawtooth developing new skills, fostering community connections, and creating new bodies of work while assisting with studio operations.
