Michele Lifshen

Michele Lifshen is a textile and mixed media artist known for her lyrical stitch language exploring personal narratives of 47 years of cancer survivorship. She is a Certified Stitch Meditation Teacher (CSMT) and is passionate about sharing this powerful tool for healing and creative meditation to help manage stress, the trauma of illness and overall wellbeing. Previously, Michele designed curricula and taught art to young children for over 15 years. She graduated with a BFA from Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, NY and also earned a Master’s degree from New York University in interactive design and communications. Michele was diagnosed at age 10 with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma and has had multiple late effects from treatment including breast and thyroid cancers. Michele lives in Winston Salem with her life partner Christopher. They have three young adult children and one studio kitty.
