Making Space to Create: Celebrating 80 Years of Sawtooth is an expansive anniversary exhibition throughout the Milton Rhodes Center for the Arts, running April 16 – June 20, 2026. Through engaging storytelling, interactive opportunities, images, ephemera, and works by over 130 artists, the exhibition creates an inclusive experience paying tribute to the interconnected community that has sustained Sawtooth for eight decades.
Since its founding in 1945 as the Arts and Crafts Workshop — a collaborative effort between the Junior League, the Winston-Salem school system, and the City Recreation & Parks Department — Sawtooth School for Visual Art has been a creative haven for the Piedmont Triad. A playground of inspiration, a place for healing and growth, and a welcoming home base, Sawtooth has cultivated artists of all ages while sparking connections that gave rise to beloved community institutions across Winston-Salem.
