Powder Coating on Metal - with Andrew Thornton

This workshop meets Friday, 6-8PM; Saturday, 9:30AM-5PM; & Sunday, 9:30AM-5PM, May 9, 10 & 11, 2025.

Color is such an important visual element and powder coating is one way to add vibrancy and personalization to your jewelry and artwork. In this workshop, Andrew will be demystifying the process and offering up accessible solutions that are low cost and low mess that you can do at home.

We will start our journey into powder coating by talking about how to properly prepare metal. We will then go into the different approaches to powder coating and dive into the fundamentals of sifting, stenciling, different types of sgraffito, and drawing on powder coated surfaces. From there, we’ll push the boundaries and go over how to powder coat non-metal materials!

We will also set aside time for participants to work on personal projects that incorporate powder coating. This workshop is great for people looking for alternatives to enameling and is open to all skill levels, whether you’re a beginner or longtime maker.

Andrew joined Sawtooth for its “Luminaries” event last October and had such an enthusiastic response, we had to have him back to focus on Powder Coating! You’ll want to sign up early because this is sure to fill up quickly.

A $35 materials fee collected at registration will cover all materials for the workshop.
