One on One: Sharpening Session

Sharpening can be an intimidating and tiresome task for anyone who works with wood, but it is also essential to the quality of our work, and the fun we have making it! Come to Sawtooth for a one on one sharpening session with one of our many instructors, and leave with the confidence to keep your tools honed and ready to cut for years to come! From hollow grinding at the Tormek, to grinding a perfect bowl gouge with the Wolverine Jig, our instructors will be able to set you up for success. We can practice techniques and discuss preferred equipment, jigs, and set ups. Sharpening sessions are two hours and are adaptable to your interests whether that be chisels and plane blades, carving tools or woodturning gouges. Prefer a group class over a private lesson? Keep an eye on our class offerings as we put on sharpening workshops a couple times a year.

Additional Info:

  • You are encouraged to bring your own tools to get the most out of your sharpening time
  • You will be matched with an instructor based on availability and specialty
  • There is no deadline for registration, but we may need a couple weeks lead time to fit your session into the studio schedule
To book a sharpening session, email Josie Vogel (wood@sawtooth.org) and include information on what kind of woodworking tools you want to learn to sharpen, and your general availability.
