Hand Carved Kuksa
Learn the Basics of carving a traditional Kuksa. This hand carved drinking cup is said to have originated in Scandinavia, and has become popular with hikers, bushcrafters and outdoorsmen of all sorts. Working with green wood, and a few hand tools, you'll build your skills in axe work, carving, whittling and hollowing out a personal drinking cup just for you. Throughout class, the instructor will show examples of finished Kuksas, lead discussions on material and log selection, proper drying techniques, and demonstrate proper tool care and sharpening. Students can expect to carve a Kuksa to a near finished thickness, as the wood will need time to dry before the bowl is carved to its final texture and thickness. Class will be structured around several breaks, as carving is a very active and strenuous process.
