Introduction to Marbling with Acrylics on Paper
Marbling is an ancient art form that endures with stunning modern designs! By manipulating paints or inks on top of a liquid bath, students can create one-of-a-kind papers to display or use in book and paper arts, card making, and collage.
This two-part workshop will cover the essentials of marbling paper with acrylic paints on a carrageenan bath using rakes, combs, and brushes. We’ll practice classic patterns and experiment with newer techniques. This is a great introduction to marbling for curious beginners, or a fun refresher for those with more experience.
Students should wear close-toed shoes with nonslip soles and clothes they won’t mind getting wet or paint-spattered. Bring an apron and a notebook and pen if desired.

Materials fee:
$50 includes 10-15 sheets of high-quality marbling paper for each student per day, marbling materials (paints, alum, carrageenan), access to trays + tools, instructional handout
