Intermediate Weaving: American Overshot
America’s earliest coverlets were usually handwoven in overshot patterns by women weaving for their homes and passed down as family heirlooms. They provide a visual catalog of America’s colonial path, with the materials used and the pattern names.
In our “Introduction to Overshot” weaving patterns, together we will plan our design, choose our yarns, thread the looms and weave a table-runner size weaving. The class is great for the adventurous beginner! Overshot weaving is a combination of plain weave and twill. For class, plan to wind your threads on a warping board, dress the loom, thread the pattern, try a little sampling and weave your piece.
***Instructor will not be present on September 10th but students are welcome to work in the studio that evening (and anytime throughout the duration of the class). Please feel free to contact Kathryn with any design questions before class.
