"In Studio" with Leslie Smith
Dear Sawtooth friends,
If I am working on my artwork, then I am “in studio.” It is a very expansive place.
So, I am trying to spend a lot of time in studio. I walk in my studio and find my sketchbook asleep. Oh dear! I have got to wake it up. I have started writing and I am drawing botanicals that I collect on my daily walk. I find that I am trying to remember how to play and how to trust in experimentation. Like the artist William Kentridge, I want to throw an encyclopedia over my shoulder and drop scraps on the table, and see what happens.
On my wall I have a little sign, I drew three houses stacked on top of each other teetering, underneath them it says, Anything you want!” It is true “in studio” you can have anything you want, even stacks of little houses endlessly teetering.
During this time, I hope you all are spending time “in studio,” and waking up your sketchbooks.
I look forward to staying in touch. Please email me and let me know what you are doing in your studio, so I can share it with others. I know we can inspire each other.
Wishing you all health and peace,
Leslie Smith
