Registration
How far in advance should I register for a class?
As soon as possible! Sawtooth’s class sizes are small, and popular courses fill up quickly. Some classes may be canceled up to a month in advance if enrollment is low. We very rarely offer last-minute registration discounts, so don’t wait!
Can I register a group of friends and pay all at one time?
Our online system handles one registration at a time, but we can accommodate this request in-person or over the phone. Please provide the first and last name, phone number, and email address for each person you want to register, as we need a unique email for each transaction. Do you offer a payment plan for youth or adult programs?

I want to give a class as a surprise or a gift. How might I go about this?
We encourage you to purchase a gift certificate! They can be purchased in-person at our Marta Blades Shop, over the phone, or online. Gift certificates can be applied toward shop purchases, tuition or membership; the person redeeming them will just need to email registrar@sawtooth.org or call us at 336-723-7395.
Do you offer certificates of completion or continuing education credits?
We do not. Sawtooth is a nonprofit community art school that offers creative enrichment for people of all ages. We do not offer certificates, degrees, or credits transferable to an accredited institution.
However, we can offer proof of class completion to be used as the student needs. (For example, this can be presented to employers offering tuition reimbursement or to educational institutions that provide credits for community activities.)
Current Students
Are material costs included in my tuition? Or is that separate?
Material fees are usually separate from tuition costs and may be due after registration. These fees cover specific studio materials, like clay and glass, which are often purchased in bulk for students. In more specialized workshops, instructors will provide a list of materials that students need to buy from their preferred art supply store. Can I make up a missed class?
We cannot guarantee a make-up class when a student misses for a scheduling conflict, illness, or unexpected occurrence. However, we want students to get the most out of their Sawtooth experience, and instructors can often assist students to make up the content during a subsequent class. To request further accommodation, please contact our Registrar + Shop Manager at registrar@sawtooth.org or 336-723-7395.
My child is already signed up for a camp class but wants to switch to a different offering that week. Is this possible?
As a nonprofit with limited resources, we carefully plan classes, purchase supplies, and coordinate staffing based on registration numbers. Last-minute cancellations and transfers make it difficult to allocate resources effectively and can impact the experience for all campers.
Camp Sawtooth 2026 cancellations or class transfers MUST occur before FRIDAY, MAY 29, 2026, and will incur a $20 processing fee. No refunds are available after this date. To withdraw from a class, contact our Registrar at registrar@sawtooth.org or 336-723-7395.
The weather forecast is bad. How will I know if you are going to close?
Sawtooth’s policy is to remain open during most periods of severe weather; however, where extraordinary circumstances warrant, due to weather or other unforeseen business interruption, Sawtooth reserves the right to close operations.
If the school closes due to severe weather, Sawtooth will notify students about this decision through direct email communication using the address associated with their registration account. We will also post details about the closure on our website, sawtooth.org, and on our social media channels. We will communicate with local media outlets and severe weather closure listings as well.

I’m coming from out of town for a class. Is there housing available or can you recommend a hotel?

Where do I park for a class/workshop/event?
Sawtooth’s main campus is located in the heart of downtown Winston-Salem, with plenty of street, lot, and garage parking available nearby. Click here for information about these parking options.

What is the Intergenerational Center for Arts and Wellness? What are your classes there like?
The Intergenerational Center for Arts and Wellness (Generations Center) is a new, state-of-the-art community center bringing together 21 partners under one roof to offer healthcare, facilitate intergenerational interaction, and provide arts-based activities for the community at large.
Sawtooth’s two dedicated studio spaces at Generations Center act as an extension of our Ceramics, Textiles, and Art + Wellness programs, with classes, workshops, and drop-in activities scheduled regularly throughout the year.
